California will continue to lead on the environment
just passed Referendum for $10.5B bond to fund env projects
releasing a new Report, in next week, as to California's continuing efforts on energy transition
bi-directional EV car batteries (and home batteries) to grid (V2G)
california wants to be a world leader on this tool / technique
energy storage tool re: arbitrage for cheap energy recharging (i.e. mid-day with excess solar) and then send that electricity into grid during peak periods; allows EV owners to earn money and offset their EV purchase costs
California needs 8X the amount of battery storage, also needs 3X renewable energy generation = EV batteries can help bridge this gap
NOTE: EV battery storage capacity will soon EXCEED the entire generation ability of the US (i.e. electricity generation from renewables, nuclear, natural gas etc)
if 5% of EV cars were bi-directional, it would back up US for one day
50 GW of capacity
due to fires, from 2018-2021, diesel generators have been purchased in large amounts, by private homeowners
diesel generator = dirty and never used
EV car = almost always available and clean
relying on EVs can help California reduce reliance on peaker plants. currently 50% of peaker plants are located in disadvantaged neighbourhoods re health issues.
car manufacturers are starting to turn to this issue re planning for bi-directional EV batteries
California wants to hurry up process. wants this to be available to EVERYONE, just "like seatbelts", not as expensive add-ons to cars on purchase
